Model Replacement: The 454 served as a successor to the International Harvester 444 utility tractor.

Engine Variants and Performance: Gasoline Engine: The 454 featured a new International C-157 4-cylinder gasoline engine governed at a higher 2200 rpm. Power Take-Off (PTO) horsepower increased from 38 to 41, emphasizing improved performance.

Diesel Engine: Replacing the previous BD-154 4-cylinder diesel engine was the International D-179 3-cylinder, built in International’s Neuss, Germany factory.

PTO horsepower for the diesel model increased from 37 (444 diesel) to 40 for the 454 diesel, indicating enhanced power and efficiency.
